NSG undecided on nuclear waiver to India

India did not succeed to obtain an unconditional waiver at the Nuclear Supply Group (NSG) plenary in Vienna on Friday. Another round of discussions is expected on September 4 and 5, when the NSG is likely to consider a revised draft that would incorporate some changes in the draft waiver

The US assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asia, Richard Boucher, suggested the US and India will have to sit together and see what changes can be made to get NSG nod.

According to reports, up to 20 NSG states suggested changes. A European diplomat was quoted as saying that testing and periodic review of the waiver topped their list of demands. No member said they were against a waiver.
