
28 injured in communal clashes in Hyderabad
The violence that erupted at Moosabowli in the old city in Hyderabad following a dispute over putting up flags on Saturday night continued with fresh incidents being reported in several localities in the old city. 28 persons, including video and photo journalists, were injured after mobs attacked them. Police resorted to firing of rubber bullets at Moosabowli and Shamshergunj to control the unruly mobs.
The situation in some localities of Old City in Hyderabad continued to remain tense for the second day in a row on Sunday as members of two communities again indulged in stone pelting against each other. Mobs set afire a shop and two wheelers at Gowliguda Kaman. In all, five vehicles were damaged in the violence. A goshala was also torched at Shamshergunj.
The fresh incidents of stone pelting were reported from Siddiamber Bazar, Afzalgunj, Gowliguda, Begum Bazar, Kalapathar, Chatrinaka, Shah-Ali Banda, Puranapul among other areas even as police resorted to cane-charge to quell the mobs.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner A.K. Khan said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would investigate the incidents and 70 persons were already taken into custody.
