The Film
What’s Your Rashee happens to be an unimpressive screen adaptation of the popular novel ‘Kimball Ravenswood’ by Madhu Rye.
The Synopsis
Yogesh Patel (Harman Baweja) firmly believes that only love marriages are good but his astrology-driven family puts him in a piquant situation. If he does not marry within ten days his family gets ruined. He then meets 12 girls each belonging to one zodiac sign. He must meet two girls per day and get married before the tenth day.
From now on the narration turns episodic with all twelve different girls played by Priyanka Chopra. Will finally Patel get his dream girl? Will the family be saved from the doomsday?
The Performances
The film is totally carried by Priyanka Chopra and she gives excellent performance may be her best so far. She may even get awards for essaying twelve different roles. Harman Baweja is good. Darshan Jariwala and Anjan Srivastava are convincing. Visshwa Badola and Pratik Dixit give out good performances. All others are adequate in their roles.
The Techniques
The screen adaptation of the novel ‘Kimball Ravenswood’ is very poor. The screenplay suffers from many dull points. The long duration of the film is another negative indicator. The climax also looks inappropriate.Director Ashutosh Gowarikar seems to have relied on the magic of 12 different roles played by Priyanka, but the fine thread relating the twelve episodes is missing. Music by Sohail Sen is just average. Cinematography by Piyush Shah is first rate.
The Verdict
After mesmerizing the audience with “Lagaan”, “Swadesh” and “Jodha Akbar”, director Ashutosh Gowarikar disappoints with “What’s Your Raashee”. This film is badly written and brings in a bout of yawning in spite of a few bright moments. This film is for the die-hard fans of Priyanka Chopra.
