Shyam Benegal makes a comedy film

Multiple National Award winning director Shyam Benegal is known as a serious film maker. He had been for long associated with parallel cinema and art movies. He made films like Ankur, Nishant, Junoon, Mandi and Trikal.
Benegal tried the comedy genre titled Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur, an unusual mix of a satire and a romantic comedy set in rural India, starring Shreyas Talpade & Amrita Rao.The music is composed by Shantanu Moitra. Produced by Chetan Motiwalla, the film whose title is said to have been changed as Welcome To Sajjanpur, will release soon.
Now , Shyam Benegal is directing an epic musical Chamki, about love, jealousy and betrayal, inspired by George Bizet’s classic Spanish opera Carmen. The story revolves around Chamki, a beautiful gypsy girl with a fiery temper. The story is written by Shama Zaidi. The music is by A. R. Rahman, while the lyrics have been written by Javed Akhtar. This film will go to floors shortly.
