The Film

Saleem – Dummu Reputaadu has a hackneyed plot that is told with total confusion and an insipid screenplay increases the woes of the viewer.

The Synopsis

Satyawathi (Ileana) returns to her native village in India after staying abroad for more than a decade. Her father Singamanaidu (Napoleon) sends her away fearing threat to her life from his rival (Mukhesh Rishi) in the village. Munna (Vishnu) enters the household of Singamanaidu and saves Satyawathi from an attempted kidnap.

Satyawathi feigns love towards Munna but elopes with Krish (Venkat) and goes back to Europe. Krish is the brother of Ogirala Jogaiah aka OJo (Mohan Babu) a dreaded international gangster.

Munna goes to Europe and we come to know that he is actually Saleem a gangster. The rest of the story deals with his clash with OJo and how he wins back Satyawathi.

The Performances

Vishnu tried his best but did not impress. Ileana and Kaveri Jha are just glam dolls. Tanikella Bharani, Jayaprakash Reddy, Mukesh Rishi and Nepolean are just standard in their roles. The comedians fail to impress. All others just go through their motions.

The Techniques

The story by Gopi Mohan is inept and the screenplay and direction by YVS Chowdary is insipid. Dialogues by Chintapalli Ramana do not add any punch and sometimes have double entendre intent. Cinematography by C Ram Prasad is routine. Music by Sandeep Chowta has nothing much to write about.

The Verdict

Saleem is proof that Tollywood producers and directors do not learn anything from films that flopped earlier. Cinema should have a proper story which should be appropriately narrated. Saleem fails on both accounts.
Nothing wrong if you give Saleem a miss.
