The Film
Rana is a gripping thriller woven around unraveling a murder mystery that keeps everyone on the edge of the seat.
The Synopsis
Rana (Nana Patekar) is a top rung film director who has gained critical acclaim with commercial success and received prestigious awards for his films. He is an introvert, perfectionist and disciplinarian. Every one dislikes him personally but respects his professionalism and talent.

Rana movie review
Rana undergoes a sudden change of personality after the arrival of Trishna (Rukmini) into the scheme of things. Rana shows enormous cordiality towards her and takes her under his protection.
Then, suddenly some prominent people get murdered one after the other. The interesting aspect is that those who are murdered are those who are trying to get closer to Trishna.
Vivek (Arjun), a police officer, tries to investigate the mysterious murders and every one suspects Rana’s hand in the crimes, except Anita (Kajal) who happens to be Vivek’s love interest.
The story then moves to a stunning climax.
The Performances
Nana Patekar excels in his role of a maverick film director. He gives a very convincing performance. Arjun is absolutely competent in his role as an investigating police officer.

Rana movie review
Rukmini and Kajal add the glamour quotient in addition to playing key roles in the mystery. All other artistes are more than adequate in their roles.
The Techniques
Bharathiraja once again proves his mettle as a great cinematic story teller with a gripping screenplay and well etched characters. The cinematography, along with editing, is very good. The music and audiography are good.
A little more care could have been taken in dubbing with voices suiting the characters. Though the songs are good, their insertion in the narration has reduced the narration speed giving a feeling that the film would be even more gripping and thrilling without some songs.
The Verdict
Rana is an absolutely thrilling cinematic experience with superb performances by Nana Patekar and Arjun.
