The Film
Quick Gun Murugan, without being a spoof, pays its own tribute to the Indian cinema of the 1970s and deals with the eternal theme of good verses evil with an interesting narration and inherent humour.
The Synopsis
Set in a period when cowboys were ruling the roost, Quick Gun Murugan (Rajendra Prasad) a small towner in South India fights for the good of the people and justice for all. He is always at loggerheads with his arch rival Rice Plate Reddy (Nasser).
Murugan is involved in a love triangle with Locket Girl (Anu Menon) and Mango Dolly (Rambha).
There is a vicious clash between Quick Gun Murugan and Rice Plate Reddy with regard to vegetarianism and non-vegetarianism. The rivalry and fight between these two reach such proportions that they even go to the heavens and meet Chitragupt before they land back in Mumbai.
The rest of the story leads to a unique but enjoyable climax.
The Performances
Rajendra Prasad gives a very good performance and brings out all his thespian talents to the fore. He exhibits a range of emotions that look serious and funny at the same time. Nasser also comes out with a very competent performance. Anu Menon and Rambha are both glamorous and effective in their roles. the role.
Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Gaurav Kapur and Sandhya Mridul, Ashwin Mushran, Raju Sundaram and Kishori Balla have given very good performances. All others are quite adequate in their roles.
The Techniques
Director Shashanka Ghosh comes out with a unique adventure and treats the film in such interesting manner that you can call the film a serious yet funny adventure. Though no spoof is intended, the film juxtaposes the 1970s film making and characterization with a novel experiment.
Music by Daniel George is good. Cinematographer R A Krishna captures the visuals in such a manner that have the 1970s feel but still appealing that adds to the narration value.
The Verdict
Quick Gun Murugan is an entertainer in spite of being an out of mainstream film. The film should be watched for the novel theme, innovative presentation and the scintillating performance of Rajendra Prasad.
