Preeti Nigam Plays Fiery Telangana Chakali Ilamma
Preeti Nigam plays the title role in the film Chakali Ilamma which is being made by Yadi Reddy and directed by Shivakumar.
Chakali Ilamma was a fiery revolutionary leader during the 1930s and 40s. She was bold and took on the might of feudal lords and razakars. She was also a social reformist and fought against slavery and oppression of 33 castes by upper caste aggressors who treated lower-caste women like sex objects.
Poet-turned-director Miriyala Ravikumar says the revolutionary film is aimed at stemming the suicides of youngsters for the cause of Telangana.
Preeti Nigam, a Dhoolpet girl, is known for films like Hari Bhari and Well Done Abba made by National Film Award winning filmmaker Shyam Benegal. She starred in many TV serials.
