The Film

Orange tries to question the raison d’etre of love between a boy and girl who have different perspectives about this emotion. The chemistry of love has different shades and reactions, but somehow emotional IQ is incompatible with routine commercial cinema.

The Synopsis

graffiti on the walls and wildlife photography. He believes that love with a girl does not last long. His sister (Manjula) and brother in law (Sanjay Swaroop) put with his rather unusal attitudes. He falls in love with Janu (Genelia) who is impressed with him but unable to fathom his real intentions as he tells her that he has many girl friends including Ruba (Shazahn Padamsee) with whom he had a break-up and that love is just a passing cloud.

Will Ram and Janu ever reconcile their diametrically opposite views on love and come to terms with being together? What is the role of Janu’s father (Prabhu), Police officer (Prakash Raj), and neighbour (Naga Babu) in resolving this love impasse? The answers to these questions lead to the rest of the story.

The Performances

Ram Charan Tej gives a spirited performance but somehow his role in Magadheera is still fresh for comparison. Genelia is bubbly and does well in her role. Prakash Raj, for once, has different type of role. Prabhu and Manjula are ok. Debutante Shahzahn Padamsee has not much of an opportunity. All others just fine.

The Techniques

It is practically impossible to give a pragmatic expression to an intangible emotion like love. The theme is lofty but the script fails to reflect the sensibilities and sensitivities.

The presentation takes recourse to spectacles in place of convincing incidents and episodes. The characterisation of the lead actors are not etched properly.

Dialogues lack depth. Music is good. Cinematography is splendid. Technically the film is good. Production values are high.

The Verdict

Orange is sweet like the fruit but has its sour points. Though the film suffers from unusually high expectations, the reality is it has nothing creative to offer for the aesthetically oriented and only the regular commercial format that may appeal only to Ram Charan Tej’s fans.
