The Film

Maa Annayya Bangaram extols the merits and values of a joint family in an age when the youth can know about joint families only from history books.

The Synopsis

Shivaji (Rajasekhar) takes care of his six younger brothers (Rohith, Raj Kiran, Aditya Om, Ping Pong and Bharath). Immersed in the bringing up of his brothers, Shivaji remains a bachelor. Uncle Parameshwar Rao (Jayaprakash Reddy) fixes the marriage of Shivaji with Manju (Kamalini Mukherjee).

However, Manju’s sister Nandini (Jhansi) is against joint families and there is a threat from another uncle Subba Raidu (Sayaji Shinde). How finally Shivaji and his brothers overcome their obstacles and lead happy lives forms the rest of the story.

The Performances

Rajasekhar looks tired and weary. The new comers Rohith, Raj Kiran, Aditya Om, Ping Pong and Bharath are disadvantaged by a weak script. Kamalini and Shayaji Shinde have nothing much to do. Jhansi and Jayaprakash Reddy are ok. Brahmanandam is wasted. All others go through their motions.

The Techniques

Resurrecting an obsolete story with a weak script and poor screenplay makes the film a great disappointment. The dialogues add to the woes of the viewers. Music is average. Technically the film has nothing much to write about.

The Verdict

Maa Annayya Bangaram is a sheer waste of money, resources and time. Why doesn’t Rajasekhar retire gracefully?
