The Synopsis

Jai Vardhan Singh (Saif Ali Khan) and Meera Pandit (Deepika Padukone) are a present day style live-in couple and they do have a happy relationship. Then the affectionate bond between them gets deteriorated because of compulsions of career and a lack of comprehension about what brought them together in the first place. Meera goes back to India and she and Jai do not believe in long distance relationships. Meera finds another man for company.

Jai meets Veer Singh (Rishi Kapoor) who narrates his own love story with Harleen. Veer is unable to understand the casual attitude of Jai towards love and Jai cannot fathom the passion of love between Veer and Harleen.

The Performances

Saif Ali Khan has come out with an extraordinary performance showing different facets of his character with great finesse. He does well as young Rishi Kapoor in the 60’s love story track. Deepika Padukone simply mesmerizes with her mature handling of her role and matches that of Saif. The seasoned Rishi Kapoor is top class in his performance. All others are more than adequate as even the minor characters and cameos have been author-backed.

The Techniques

Love Aaj Kal is totally director Imtiaz Ali’s film where he simply dove-tails a complex love story into a taught script and interlaces two love story tracks with immense tact. The screenplay and presentation along with apt dialogues makes the film a joy to watch and the gripping narrative adds to the viewing pleasure.

Imtiaz Ali has written and directed a very beautiful love story and so cleverly presented it that the characters in the film look so real and credible as the youthful people that live in hi-tech environs.

Cinematography by Natarajan Subramaniam is world class and editing by Aarti Bajaj is crisp anmd refereshing. Preetam’s music has both the melody quotient and hip-swinging foot-tapping numbers.
