The film

Hijack is a desperate attempt to make an enforced mixture of the best of Hollywood and the worst of Bollywood. If one has to make an action thriller, one should sincerely stick to that genre instead of sprinkling the film with melodramatic moments, sentimental strings and mediocre songs which will only distract the narration.

The Synopsis

The story deals with the life of Vikram Madan (Shiney Ahuja) an ex-pilot, who is now working as a maintenance engineer, at the Chandigarh airport. His social life is restricted to meeting Rajeev, the Security Chief of the same airport.
It so happens that one day, the flight in which Vikram’s daughter is travelling, from Delhi to Amritsar, is hijacked. The terrorists who have hijacked the plane demand the release of their mastermind Rasheed (KK Raina), in exchange of the lives of the passengers.
To save his daughter, Vikram sneaks into the aircraft. On board, he is helped by an airhostess Saira (Esha Deol). After single handedly destroying the hijackers, his daughter and other passengers come out safely.

The Performance

Shiney Ahuja gives a good performance. KK Raina is very convincing as the terrorist mastermind. Esha and Kavery Jha are just part of the glamour props. All other supporting actors are just adequate.

The Techniques

Kunal Shivdasani has treated the story a bit shabbily. The screenplay could have been more taut instead of allowing avoidable lags. A stew of all and sundry vegetables never makes a tasty dish. The director failed to create the proper ambience of terror or the moods of fear.
Music by Justin-Uday is average and a drag on the narration. Allan Amin’s action sequences and Jehangir Chowdhary’s cinematography are the only saving grace of the film.

The Verdict

Hijack is an average hotch-potch action-thriller with a far-fetched notion of action and far less of thrills. You don’t miss anything, if you missed watching this film.
