The Film
Ek Niranjan is an energetic movie with well etched characters and has the essential entertainment elements of main stream cinema.
The Synopsis
Chotu (Prabhas), born to poor parents (Tanikella Bharani and Sangeeta), is separated from them in childhood when he was stolen and sold away by a beggar mafia. He is brought up by Chidambaram (Makrand Deshpande). As a young man Chotu becomes a bounty hunter by catching wanted criminals and getting paid by the police for his efforts. He is always on the search for his parents but cannot find them.
Chotu happens to meet a music teacher Sameera (Kangana Ranaut) and falls in love with her. A conspiracy of circumstances makes him cross paths with local underworld don Johnny Bhai (Sonu Sood). From then on the story takes some unexpected turns.
Will Chotu meet his parents? What exactly is the background of Sameera? What ensues between the clash between Chotu and Johnny Bhai? The answers to these questions lead the film to its crisp climax.
The Performances
Prabhas has given an energetic performance with perfect ease and élan. Kangana Ranaut has nothing much to do but complements the glamour quota. Sonu Sood essays a well etched character with aplomb. Makrand Deshpande’s role is credible and convincing. Brahmaji and Posani Krishna Murali have done justice to their cameos. Mukul Dev and Tanikella Bharani are their usual mature selves. Brahmanandam, Ali, Venu Madhav and Sunil fill up the rib-tickling tracks. All others are quite adequate in their roles.
The Techniques
Penned by Puri Jagannath, the story is cohesive, lead characters are very well delineated, dialogues are crispy and punchy and screenplay gives the narration a smooth run. The direction has the now well known Puri style of presentation. Music by Mani Sarma is very good.
Shyam K Naidu’s cinematography is vibrant and pleasing. Editing by MR Varma enhances the narration values.Sound design could have been better. Production values are high.
The Verdict
Ek Niranjan is an entertaining mainstream film and it deserves a “dekho” particularly because of the performances of Prabhas and Sonu Sood plus the directorial finesse of Puri Jagannath.
