The Film
Baabarr explores the inherent culture of criminality that thrives unabated in the seedy by-lanes of the towns of Uttar Pradesh. It realistically depicts the nexus between police, politicians and gun-wielding gang-lords.

The Synopsis
A heartless and fearless 12 year old boy shoots a man in cold blood in Amanganj in broad day light and walks away without any remorse. He grows up to be the gangster Baabarr (Sohum Shah) and lives a life of lawlessness and terrorizing one and all with his gun-trotting gang. He has rival gang led by Tabrez (Sushant Singh), Nawaz (Mukesh Tiwari), Bhaiyya Ji (Govind Namdeo) and others.
The lawlessness is noted by the government which appoints Superintendent of Police Dwivedi (Mithun Chakraborty) to arrest or kill Baabarr. He is assisted by Daroga Chaturvedi (Om Puri). They try to initiate a rivalry among gang lords to eliminate Baabarr.
With chases, thrills and nail-biting action a surprising climax is in store.

The Performances
The debutant Sohum Shah excels as a a fearless gangster. Mithun Chakravarthy and Om Puri show why they are such great actors. Tinnu Anand and Shakti Kapoor make you feel why they are not seen in more films. Urvashi Sharma is very competent. Mukesh Tiwari, Govind Namdeo and Sushant Singh are very convincing and natural. Vivek Shauq, Vishwajeet Pradhan, Pratima Kazmi and Ahmad Khan perform their cameos with verve and confidence.
With author backed roles, all actors have given their very best in enacting their roles.
The Techniques
Though this is a gangster film, the story and script by Ikram Akhtar is gripping with unexpected twists and turns. Director Ashu Trikha tells a narration without unnecessary frills and shooting on actual locations in Lucknow and the boy’s voice over to connect the events is truly remarkable. Abbas Ali Moghul’s action sequences are chilling and thrilling. Suhass Gujarathi did an excellent job and his cinematography greatly enhances the narration value. The art and music departments lend good support to the flow of the story. Editing is crisp.
Baabarr Hindi Movie Review
The Verdict
Director Ashu Trikha tells a dark, stark and gruesome story of a parallel world of lawlessness with great power and conviction. The film Baabarr has to be seen for its powerful script, deft direction and effortless but effective performances by all the actors.
There is excessive violence, but that is the reality, whether we like it or not. The impact of Baabarr is terrific and terrifying.
