Aakasamantha Movie Review

The Film

Akashamantha explores the now well known Dad and Daughter natural bonding and the issues of possessive affection and obsessive attachment.

The Synopsis

The story is told from the point of view of Raghuram (Prakash Raj) in a flashback format and encompasses a period of twenty five years. The protagonist is married to Anu (AIshwarya) and the couple have a daughter Abhi ( played byTrisha and two other girls).

The emotional quotient and the affectionate bonding between Raghuram and Abhi slowly shows signs of severe strain, as the latter grows into a young woman and desiring her  own man in her life.

This saga does not have a linear story telling structure and swings from the present to the past and back showing the changes of dad-daughter relationships at various stages of growing up.

The Performances

Prakash Raj carries the entire film on his  able shoulders and he renders one of his best on-screen performances. Aishwarya, Jagapathi Babu and Ganesh Venkataraman have given convincing and credible performances. Trisha matches Prakash Raj in her emoting intensity.

The Techniques

The story has a novel theme which has not been explored so far at full length feature level. The screenplay keeps the narration interesting, though certain emotional scenes tended to over-step into the forbidden zone of melodrama.

Radhamohan did well as a helmer. The cinematography is of high quality and so are the other technical aspects.

The Verdict

Akashamantha is a must-see film for all Dads and Daughters. Particularly, the performance of Prakash Raj and the way his character has been moulded, deserves appreciation.

It is obvious that Raghuram, the character played by Prakash Ra, is not aware of the subtle relationship between parents and their progenies dealt with in  Richard Bach’s best selling book  Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
